What happens when you don’t get enough vitamin B12? Vitamin B12 deficiency is a very serious problem that can ultimately lead to anemia, heart attack and irreversible nerve damage.
Why do I need to take vitamin B12? Our bodies all need an adequate amount of vitamin B12 to maintain our health. Vitamin B12 helps to regulate the appropriate amount of homocysteine in our blood which, in turn, reduces our risk of heart attack. In the last article that I posted about resveratrol, the antioxidant found in red wine, I mentioned that in order to obtain a beneficial amount of resveratrol via the consumption of wine, one would have to drink an outrageous amount of wine each day – about a hundred bottles! What are the best nutritional supplements? I take a wide variety of nutritional supplements and vitamins that complement my workout regime and diet. For the most part, I take nutritional supplements to promote my overall health and to support my immune system. Being a cancer survivor, I am keenly aware of the negative long-term effects of chemotherapy – sometimes I feel like a walking Petri dish.
If I had a premonition that I was going to be stranded on a deserted island, and if I could only pack a few different nutritional supplements, what would I take? The first supplement that I’d take would be a multi-vitamin with, at least, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and zinc – this would round out my diet. Read more
