There’s a Cure for Type 2 Diabetes

April 5, 2009 by Doug Cobb

Type 2 diabetics can counteract the progression of diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity and by enhancing glucose metabolism. Diabetics can stop the complications that accompany diabetes.

Diabetes is an epidemic in America

  • The number of adults diagnosed with diabetes has more than doubled over the past 20 years
  • Over 21 million Americans, 7% of our population, suffer from diabetes
  • Over 40 million Americans, another 14% of our population, are ‘at risk’ of contracting diabetes

Our Childrens’ Life’s are at Risk!

Children are being diagnosed with diabetes in alarming numbers. The likelihood of children, born in 2000, contracting diabetes in their lifetime is staggering:

  • 33% of American men will be diabetic
  • 39% of American women will be diabetic
  • 50% of Hispanic women will be diabetic

The Consequences of Uncontrolled Diabetes are Severe:

Blindness

Stroke

Kidney Failure

Nerve damage

Increased Risk of Heart Disease

Amputation

Conventional Diabetes Treatment is Failing!

  • Diabetes has rapidly emerged as the leading cause of heart disease:
  • Approximately 70% of patients with type 2 diabetes will die of heart disease
  • Last year 44% of hospital patients with heart failure were diabetic
  • Diabetic women have four times the risk of developing heart disease
  • Diabetic men have two times the risk of developing heart disease
  • Diabetes is the #1 cause of amputation and blindness

Diabetes is Preventable!

  • Restore Your Energy
  • Avoid Life-Long Health Consequences
  • Live a Normal Life Again
  • Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease

Your Diet Could Save Your Life

A life Style change might be necessary to overcome the effects of diabetes.  Eat a balanced diet that primarily consists of whole grains, fruit and vegetables:

  • 12% to 16% protein
  • 50% to 55% carbohydrate
  • Less than 30% (mostly unsaturated) fat
  • 25g to 50g fiber per day
  • Reduce your consumption of carbohydrates

Why is Conventional Diabetes Treatment Failing?

Type 2 diabetes goes through identifiable stages. Treatment for type 2 diabetes should be tailored to the stage of the disease because in the early stages both insulin and glucose levels are elevated whereas in the later stages, insulin levels decline and glucose levels continue to rise.

The logic behind conventional therapy for type 2 diabetes is flawed. Type 2 diabetics are routinely told that they need to boost their levels of insulin, which will help drive glucose into their cells and lower their blood glucose levels. Unfortunately, in the early stages of type 2 diabetes, insulin levels are already elevated! This treatment advice is like an auto mechanic telling you to put more gas into your gas tank because your fuel filter is clogged – this doesn’t make sense!

In the early stages of type 2 diabetes, the problem isn’t with insulin production, the problem is with our body’s ability to utilize insulin. In the early stages of type 2 diabetes, our cells are less responsive to insulin – they are not absorbing the glucose from the bloodstream and, as a result, our glucose levels slowly rise.

The Right Combination

Diet – Make sure that your carbohydrates come from whole grains, dark green and brightly colored vegetables. Read the label – make sure that you consume poly and mono unsaturated fats, the more mono-unsaturated, the better.

Limit your consumption of saturated fats, animal products such as whole milk, butter, cream, ice cream, cheese, fatty meats and oils. Saturated fats will clog your arteries. And try to limit your consumption of Trans fats – they are not good for you. Trans fats are found in fried food, commercially baked goods, processed foods and margarine.

Exercise – People who have a tendency to develop type 2 diabetes are typically overweight. Therefore, 30 minutes a day of light to moderate exercise – combined with healthy diet is the first step in concurring diabetes.

Medication – In addition to diet and exercise, there are a few prescription drugs that increase insulin sensitivity in people with mild to moderate hyperglycemia:

Metformin                       Pioglitazone                        Actos®

Nutritional Supplements – In addition to these prescription drugs, many nutrients have been shown to increase insulin sensitivity, protect vulnerable cell membranes, and reduce the damaging effects of elevated glucose. Ideally, a combination of improved diet, exercise, insulin-sensitizing prescription drugs and nutritional supplements can reverse mild to moderate hyperglycemia before stronger drugs are needed and permanent damage is done.

Nutritional Supplement Recommendations:

Life Extension is a non-profit company that is dedicated to the research and development of world-class health supplements. Life Extension voluntarily complies with GMP, the FDA’s Good Manufacturing Process criterion that has been established for pharmaceutical companies. Under no circumstances should you stop taking your diabetic drugs, especially insulin, without consulting with your physician. A type 1 diabetic will never be able to stop taking insulin. However, it is possible to improve glucose metabolism, control, and tolerance with the following supplements that Life Extension recommends:

Bilberry extract Carnitine – L-carnitine Carnosine Chromium Cinnulin PF – Cinnamon extract Coffee berry extract CoQ10 DHEA Omega-3 Fatty Acids EPA/DHA Fiber Garlic Ginkgo Biloba GLA Green Tea Extract Magnesium NAC Quercetin R-dihydro-lipoic acid Silymarin Vitamin B-Complex Vitamin C Vitamin E Featured Products (in boxes): Cinnulin – Healthy Glucose Metabolism Studies reveal that even active, health-conscious adults can experience higher than desired blood sugar levels as they age. In addition to a proper diet and regular exercise, certain minerals and plant-based nutrients, such as the extracts from cinnamon, coffee berry, green tea, and banaba leaf, and water-soluble quercetin, can help support healthy blood sugar levels in aging adults. Lipoic Acid – Helps Prevent Diabetes As a powerful antioxidant, lipoic acid positively affects important aspects of diabetes, including blood sugar control and the development of long-term complications such as disease of the heart, kidneys, and small blood vessels. Lipoic acid plays a role in preventing diabetes by reducing fat accumulation. Lipoic acid has been approved for the prevention and treatment of diabetic neuropathy in Germany for nearly 30 years. Right Sidebar Products: Carnitine – Increase Insulin Sensitivity Carnitine lowers blood glucose levels, increases insulin sensitivity and glucose storage, and Carnitine optimizes fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Omega-3 Fiber Life Extension Mix – for your health! Vitamins C, B-Complex and E, and magnesium all help in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Life Extension Mix provides high- potency vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in the best multivitamin available! Improve blood sugar levels with CoQ10 CoQ10 Lowers blood pressure, improves blood sugar control and prevents oxidative damage caused by diabetes. Studies show that CoQ10 improves glycemic control, blood pressure and lovers vascular oxidative stress.

Nicely written, but wrong on one point.:

Eat a balanced diet that primarily consists of whole grains, fruit and vegetables:

    50% to 55% carbohydrate

    Thi right answer is:

Reduce your consumption of carbohydrates – as much as you can!

    Or am I wrong?
